Izabela Jaruga-Nowacka

The woman in Polish politics, whose work I admire most, is Izabela Jaruga-Nowacka. I was really sad having found out that she was one of the people on the plane, which crushed on 10 April 2010, killing all aboard. May she rest in peace.

Among the numerous accomplishments that she had, she was elected President of the Women’s League, Deputy Prime Minister and she was also nominated for a Nobel Prize in 2005. Moreover, she was fighting for human rights, including the rights of sexual minorities, victims of domestic violence and the people living in abject poverty. However, the main concern of her political career was always gender equality. She was a keen feminist who had always been a spokesperson for women’s rights.

She was always true to herself, regardless of what others thought. It is really a great loss for our country not to have her with us anymore.
